Model Y and Performance numbers, plus rebates by province, are in our Tesla out-the-door price by province guide.

Rebates: what the Model 3 does and does not get

  • Federal EVAP ($5,000): not available. The program requires a vehicle built in Canada or a free-trade partner country, and the Canadian Model 3 comes from China.
  • Quebec Roulez vert: up to $2,000 for an eligible new EV in 2026, based on the date the car is registered. The Shanghai Premium RWD has been reported on the eligible list.
  • Other provinces: Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan have no purchase rebate; BC’s Go Electric rebate has been paused since May 2025.

The Berlin-built Model Y RWD is the Tesla that qualifies for EVAP, which matters if you are cross-shopping. See Model 3 vs Model Y in Canada and which Teslas qualify for rebates.

Which Model 3 should you buy?

  • Premium RWD: the value pick. Best if you can charge at home and most of your driving is commuting. Charge to 100% daily (Tesla’s advice for LFP).
  • Premium AWD: the Canadian all-rounder. More range, AWD traction and quicker Supercharger stops for winter road trips, for $10,500 more.
  • Performance: very quick, firmer ride, much higher price. Buy it because you want it, not for winter.

How to buy a Tesla Model 3 in Canada, step by step

Ordering is limited right now. Since about October 12, 2026 Tesla has paused new orders for both Premium trims in Canada, saying its quota for China-built imports is used up; it expects to reopen in March 2027 if Ottawa issues more quota. The Performance can still be ordered, and remaining Premium inventory cars may still be listed in the inventory section of tesla.com/en_ca. If you need a car sooner, compare the Model Y, which is still orderable.

  1. Open a referral link first if you want the referral perk. It cannot be added after the order is placed.
  2. Configure on tesla.com/en_ca or in the Tesla app: trim, paint, wheels, interior, and whether to add FSD.
  3. Pick cash, finance or lease and enter your delivery postal code so tax and fees are calculated for your province.
  4. Place the order and pay the order fee. Check the order summary shows any referral benefit.
  5. Complete the tasks in the app: ID, insurance, trade-in (if any), and loan or lease approval.
  6. Take delivery: inspect paint, panels, glass and the interior before accepting the car, and note anything in the app.

Financing and leasing a Model 3

Tesla offers financing and leases through its partners, and rates change often (sometimes with promotional rates on specific trims). Compare Tesla’s quote with your bank or credit union. Because the Model 3 gets no federal rebate, the lease vs finance question is purely about payments and how long you keep the car. Our Tesla lease vs finance in Canada guide walks through the math.

Charging and running costs

A Level 2 (240V) home charger is the single best accessory: it refills a Model 3 overnight. At typical Canadian residential rates, a full charge costs a few dollars to around ten dollars depending on the province and plan. See the cost to charge at home in each province and run your own numbers in the gas savings calculator.

Winter ownership tips

  • Fit winter tires (mandatory in Quebec from December 1 to March 15, and on many BC highways from October 1).
  • Schedule departure in the app so the cabin and battery warm up while plugged in.
  • Navigate to Superchargers in the car so the battery preconditions for faster charging.
  • Expect less range in deep cold, more so on the LFP RWD. Details in our LFP winter range test.

Insurance

Insurance for a Model 3 varies widely by province, postal code, age and driving record, and repair costs for EVs can push premiums up. Get quotes from two or three insurers with the exact trim before you order; you need proof of insurance before delivery.
