Costs that are not in the price
- Plates and registration: set by your province; Alberta adds a $200 annual EV fee.
- Insurance: get quotes for the exact trim before ordering.
- Home charging: a Level 2 charger and installation, often the biggest add-on. See what charging costs in each province.
- Winter tires: mandatory in Quebec (December 1 to March 15) and on many BC highways.
- Options: paint, wheels and FSD all add to the taxable price and can push a Model Y RWD over the rebate cap.

Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest Tesla in Canada?
The Model 3 Premium RWD at $39,490 before fees and tax. After about $2,646 in freight and fees it is $42,136 before tax, but new Premium orders are paused until about March 2027, so only inventory cars are available. The Model Y RWD at $49,990 can come close once its reported $5,000 federal rebate is applied, and it can still be ordered.
Which province is cheapest to buy a Tesla in?
Alberta, because only the 5% GST applies (a Model 3 Premium RWD comes to about $44,243). The 15% HST provinces (New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, PEI) are the most expensive at about $48,456. Quebec claws some of that back with its Roulez vert rebate in 2026.
Is sales tax charged on Tesla’s freight and delivery fee?
Yes. GST, HST, PST and QST apply to the vehicle price plus freight, PDI and other fees, which is why the out-the-door figures here tax the fees too.
Do Teslas qualify for the federal EV rebate in 2026?
Only the Model Y RWD has been reported eligible for the $5,000 EVAP rebate. Every Model 3 sold in Canada is built in China, which the program excludes, and the more expensive Model Y trims are over the $50,000 cap. The rebate falls to $4,000 on January 1, 2027.
Are there other costs beyond the out-the-door price?
Yes: licence plates and registration, insurance, any options you add, a home charger and installation, and in some provinces an annual EV registration fee (Alberta charges $200 a year). Winter tires are mandatory in Quebec and on many BC highways.
