Buying a Tesla in Nevada: real tax, NV Energy and Giga Nevada

Facts last checked . Prices and incentives change often; confirm with Tesla and the program before you order.

You may have read that Nevada buyers pay no sales tax on EVs. That is not true for consumers: the tax abatements around Gigafactory Nevada went to Tesla as a business, not to car buyers. A Model 3 registered in Las Vegas pays the full 8.375% Clark County rate.

Giga Nevada, east of Reno, builds battery cells, drive units and the Tesla Semi rather than the cars you would buy. What Nevada does offer is cheap electricity, NV Energy time-of-use plans, and two very different climates: Las Vegas heat and Reno winters.
