Canadian ordering status (checked October 2026)
Model 3 Premium RWD and AWD orders have been paused in Canada since about October 12, 2026. Tesla says its quota for China-built EV imports is used up and expects to reopen orders in March 2027 if Ottawa issues more quota. The Model 3 Performance is still orderable, and any remaining Premium inventory cars may still be listed. The Berlin-built Model Y is still orderable, but delivery estimates were reported at December 2026 to January 2027 for every trim.
Alberta has the lowest tax on a new car in Canada: 5% GST and nothing else. On a Model 3 that saves about $3,000 compared with Ontario. The province offers no EV rebate, and since 2025 EV owners pay an extra $200 a year at registration.
Electricity is the most expensive of the provinces we cover once delivery is added: the default Rate of Last Resort energy charge is about 12¢/kWh through 2026, and delivery and transmission charges come on top. The Canada Energy Regulator ranks Alberta among the priciest provinces for household power. A Model 3 still costs far less to fuel than a gas sedan. Winter is the bigger factor: at -30°C, range drops sharply, so a heat pump, preconditioning and a garage outlet make a real difference.
| Model | Base price | Tax (5%) | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Model 3 Premium RWD | CA$39,490 | CA$1,975 | CA$41,465 |
| Model Y RWD | CA$49,990 | CA$2,500 | CA$52,490 |
Alberta has no provincial sales tax, so only the 5% GST applies. Base prices exclude destination and order fees. Model Y is the RWD trim, before the federal rebate. With freight and fees for every trim, see the out-the-door Tesla price by province.
The Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP) pays up to $5,000 in 2026 ($4,000 from January 1, 2027) on new EVs built in Canada or a free-trade partner country with a final transaction value of $50,000 or less. The China-built Model 3 does not qualify. The Berlin-built Model Y RWD was reported eligible in September 2026; confirm it on your order summary.
Alberta has no provincial EV purchase rebate.
Since 2025 Alberta charges EV owners an extra $200 a year at registration. This is a cost, not a rebate.

Rate of Last Resort energy charge, fixed at about 12¢ through December 2026. Delivery and transmission charges come on top, so your all-in price per kWh is higher. It works, but at -30°C expect a big range drop. Keep it plugged in overnight, precondition before driving, and plan Supercharger stops on highway trips.
At 12¢/kWh, a Model 3 costs about CA$2 per 100 km to charge at home, or roughly CA$360 a year, versus about CA$2,490 for a comparable gas car.
